This is very hard for me. I have never had to ask for help this way. I am very proud, but not so proud that I can continue here with no support. I need to go home. Thank for taking the time to read, and possibly help. I am the daughter of a disabled Vietnam veteran. Unfortunately, he was exposed to dioxin in many "colors" not just agent orange. Using the DOD list of chemical exposures in places other than Vietnam. My father was exposed in Laos primarily. I was born with birth defects, but luckily not spina bifita. However, I had hip dysplasia, and was born severely underweight. I had prolific and reoccurring ear infections for 2+ years concurrently. That was the beginning. Next was following the birth of my only child, my husband and I were stationed in Hawaii. I contracted meningitis. Immediately following that, I had female problems that ended up with a full hysterectomy at age 21. I was diagnosed in 1999 with fibromyalgia. That year I had to have a plum sized lump removed from my throat, along all of my lymph nodes on the right side. I also had early extreme bone disease, osteoporosis at age 32. My bones were so bad, they said that I mirrored the bones of a 85 year old woman. The next incidence of health oddities occurred at age 38. I was diagnosed with heart disease. Coronary artery disease and hypertension were part of that. 4 stents were put in my body to keep my arteries open. I also was diagnosed with diabetes type 2 that day also. I just now am finding out by looking at advocacy groups for the children of Vietnam Veterans. I have found that all of my health issues since I was born are consistent with the other children of Vietnam Veterans exposed to dioxin in many forms/colors. I am not alone. I now belong to COVVHAA. They are an organization dedicated to making the veterans, government and public aware of the problems that are pervasive in the population of children born to exposed veterans. This not exclusive to Vietnam Veterans, the DOD list is very long and quite extensive. It includes service members from decades back, and is spread across many countries and sites that the U.S. had our military stationed in/at. The discovery of the numerous exposures of chemicals that they were exposed to is eye opening. I have been told by the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota that my condition is not normal or indicative of normal causes. They have all acknowledged that they have seen many unusual cases of patients with parents exposed to dioxin or Agents of herbicide used in previous conflicts in Southeast Asia. They have told me that it is untreatable at this stage. I have taken all the currently available medications available for use. I cannot have surgery on my bones because they crumble during surgery. No neurosurgeon will touch me. Unfortunately, due to undiagnosed PTSD in my father, I have PTSD from my childhood and being raised by him as a single father. I also am permanently disabled from health and mental conditions. There are no treatments. I know and understand that I am not currently eligible for benefits. That will change when the government acknkowlages the effects of the chemical exposure, but until then, sadly I am not. I moved to Minnesota in hopes of finding a treatment to reverse or stop my extreme bone loss. To no avail. Now, with no treatments available or even in the pipeline (mayo clinics assessment) I am not able to find new treatments or therapies to help. I am in extreme pain every moment of my days. I have gigantic holes inside my bones filling with water. I frequently fracture my feet walking around my home, and up/down stairs or simply stepping on something uneven. I can fracture or shatter my spine by coughing, sneezing, or getting bumped hard. My face is under -7. If anything hits my face or bumps it, my entire facial structure can shatter. I also have the added complicationof the bones in my face thinning and causing the structural support that holds your teeth in place disappearing. That has caused my teeth to start falling out. They are mostly healthy when they come out. This has caused many primary care physicians as well as the specialists they have sent me to to be confounded. My endocrinologist in Michigan and here in Minnesota have been unable to assist me in slowing, healing or even treating the disease that is disintegrating my bones, the very structures holding me together and upright. That brings me to my situation and problems associated with it. I am now stuck in Minnesota with no family, friends or support system. I have no ability to seek any new treatments or relief for these conditions that cause me to need the constant care of a PCA for even simple things. The state of Minnesota pays for 40 hours a week for my caregiver. That is a great help, and very much appreciated. However, I am sad, lonely and removed from anything familiar or comforting. I am 700 miles from my family. Unfortunately, my relationship with me has suffered greatly due to his untreated PTSD, and substance abuse and has not been able to recover, leaving me without the support of family. I have no one to help me home, where I do have other family and friends, which I need desperately. All of these effect my mental health. I want to live. I currently have no quality of life. I have tried asking anyone and everyone to help me get home. I have had no luck. I started a gofundme, also to no avail. I am trying not to give up. I just want and need to go home. With SSI being my only income, it is near impossible to save money to go home. Just the moving truck is $719 + an estimated $200 for gas. Then, first months rent and deposit. I have people to pack me up, and drive me home. I just cannot come up with the rest of the resources needed to pay for everything. I do have some saved. My son is expecting a baby in August. He is my only child, and that is likely to be my only grandchild. It is breaking my soul thinking I may not be able to be there. I am asking for support from everyone and every group I can find. I am not sure why I can't find any assistance from Veteran support organizations. Up until this point, I have been coming up empty. I am hoping I have just been looking in the wrong spits. Can your organization help in any way? If you cannot, do you know of anyone that would? I also do not know if there are people to help me find/coordinate resources. I need help. My ex-husband served in the Army. My brother is retiring from the Navy in October. I come from a proud service related family. Is there any help for me, the daughter and sister of dedicated veterans?
